Finding Help For Myself

How do I get help?

No one plans to have an alcohol, drug or gambling problem when they start drinking, using drugs or gambling. Alcohol, drug use and gambling can be considered harmful when it causes physical, mental, social, legal and/or financial problems.

Different kinds of help are available, ranging from pamphlets, brochures, books, videos, and public information sessions to detoxification, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Gamblers Anonymous.
You may want to start by having a look around this website or by making an appointment with an AADAC counsellor to talk a few things over. There is a range of services available should you decide to get help.

Every client who comes to AADAC gets an assessment to determine the extent of the problem. After the assessment, the counsellor and the client talk about what they client wants out of treatment. After some discussion, the client and counsellor agree on a treatment plan. Each client's treatment plan is different because each client is different.

If you are concerned about alcohol, tobacco, other drug and/or gambling problems contact your local AADAC office Monday to Friday during office hours, or phone the 24-hour AADAC Help Line at 1-866-332-2322 (Alberta only).
