How often have you let your emotions get the better of you? Do you remember the last time you felt so strongly about an idea, a situation or another person that your emotions caused you to practically lose it? Relax, you’re not alone.
Anger, fear, jealousy, shame, frustration, loneliness and stress are all powerful emotions. Sometimes we can feel as though our emotions control us, instead of the other way around. Often, people use alcohol or other drugs to try to mask their feelings and run away from their emotions.
Just remember that emotions are natural feelings. It’s OK for you to express your emotions and your feelings in healthy ways. That can mean calling a friend or family member when you’re feeling lonely, or going for a walk when you’re feeling stressed. Once you can understand your emotions and why they make you feel a certain way, you can learn to accept and control your emotions.
